Chipper Jones was one of the best players in baseball in the late ’90s and early 2000s, as well as one of the best switch-hitters of all time, and carries a name that is synonymous with the Atlanta Braves!
Jones was an eight-time all-star and won all sorts of different hardware throughout his career, even a World Series in 1995. Post-playing-career, he had his number retired by the Braves and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Jones’ early career coincided with the era of overproduction in the baseball card industry which unfortunately means that many of his cards have little value due to their immense quantities.
Despite that, we have listed the best Chipper Jones rookie cards which still carry value and will be of high interest for investors.
Best Three Chipper Jones Rookie Cards
Out of all the different Chipper Jones rookie cards, these three stand above. There are options at different price points for different levels of investor from your novice to your seasoned collector.
1991 Chipper Jones Topps Tiffany RC #333
Topps Tiffany was a premium product offered by Topps in the 1990s which attracted the eyes of many investors due to its higher-quality card stock and glossy look.
This card uses the same image as the regular Topps card (as well as the Topps Desert Shield card mentioned further down on this list) but can be differentiated by the quality when compared to the base version.
The photo shows an image of a young Jones, bat slung over his left shoulder, with Braves written out in the bottom right corner.
The card has an all-white border but the image itself is encased in a blue and red design that is quite attractive to the eye.
Topps Tiffany was discontinued after this season.
1991 Chipper Jones Upper Deck RC #55
In 1991, Upper Deck was a new card company that was just entering the baseball card scene. They arrived with a splash as they presented a higher-end product that would alter the trajectory of baseball cards forever.
This card shows Jones in a red Braves jersey, ready to field any balls that are hit his way.
In the bottom right corner of the card, it has the Upper Deck Top Prospect emblem showing how highly-thought of Jones was.
This card has the lowest value of the three listed here as it has no unique features but still carries more value than base cards produced by other companies.
1991 Chipper Jones Topps Desert Shield RC #333
The most expensive card on this list, the 1991 Topps Desert Shield Chipper Jones RC was a very limited release which has resulted in the card being worth a large amount. The card can be identified by the large silver foil on the upper-right side of the card.
The Desert Shield cards were produced in extremely limited edition to give to the troops who were in Operation Desert Storm.
For this reason, not only was there a limited quantity produced by not many circulating on marketplaces. These are extremely hard to find in high condition due to their special release. The card uses the same image as the Topps Tiffany mentioned above.
Chipper Jones Rookie Card Value
Jones is a baseball legend and one of the better batters to ever play the game. Unfortunately, many of his cards don’t have much value due to the high quantities that they were produced in, yet we have still found three which are good investment options listed above.
Popular: Best Mariano Rivera Rookie Cards
The Topps Desert Shield card is the big find, costing upwards of five figures in mint conditions but if you’re not looking to spend the money and time looking for that then any of the other cards on the list offer a strong alternative.
Chipper Jones Investment Outlook
Jones is already a Hall-of-Famer and won’t fall out of baseball lore anytime soon thus his cards will not suddenly lose a ton of value. However, on the flip side, there isn’t a ton of upside for the prices to skyrocket like a prospect’s might.
Popular: Best Luka Doncic Rookie Cards
Still, Jones’ cards offer a strong, safe investment that can’t be found from many other players. Adding to the benefits is the fact that there are different Jones cards at every price range which means that every level of investor can get involved if they wish to.
