Kurt Warner (06/22/71) is a former quarterback who played for the St. Louis Rams, the New York Giants, and the Arizona Cardinals during a storied career. He won the Super Bowl in ‘99, and was named as the MVP when he and the Rams beat the Tennessee Titans.

Kurt Warner Rookie Year Stats: 16 games | 41 TD passes | 109.2 QBR | 4353 yards passing

A two-time NFL MVP who made four Pro Bowl appearances, he’s seen as a living legend. Warner is currently the only undrafted player in history to win the NFL MVP award, and the only undrafted quarterback to lead his team to a Super Bowl victory.

We’ve come up with a list containing three top Kurt Warner rookie cards, as well as an investment outlook for the future.

Top 3 Kurt Warner Rookie Cards

Despite being eligible for the 1994 draft, Warner was unpicked and ended up being part of the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad. He saw success in the AFL with the Barnstormers and ended up being signed by the St. Louis Rams in ‘98.

As such, his officially licensed cards come from 1999, and we’ve got a trio of options below.

1999 Playoff Contenders SSD Rookie Ticket Kurt Warner RC  #146 (buy on eBay)

best Kurt Warner Rookie Card

The Playoff Contenders is his only signed RC, and it’s seen as the best option overall. It has a classic Rookie Ticket design, with a large image of the player found on the right of the card.

The base version is reasonably expensive when looking at higher grades, while there are also a trio of rare parallels which up the ante considerably.

Parallels: Speed Red (/100), Powder Blue (/50), Finesse Gold (/25)

1999 Bowman’s Best Kurt Warner RC #110 (buy on eBay)

Next up is Warner’s 1999 Bowman’s Best. The base card is chromium, with a blue-lined background. There’s a large image of the QB doing what he does best in the middle, and it’s a decent entry-level piece.

For investment purposes, we’d look to either the Refractor version (numbered to 400 copies), or the Atomic Refractor, which has a print run of just 100. Either cause the card to shimmer, and they’re significantly more valuable.

Parallels: Refractor (/400), Atomic Refractor (/100)

1999 Pacific Football Kurt Warner RC #343 (buy on eBay)

I mean, it’s a bit offensive to stick you with someone else, but Warner had to share his 1999 Pacific Football RC with wide receiver Tony Horne. To make space for each player, the card is split in half, with a black borderline in the middle. Warner is shown in a close-up, while there’s an action shot of Throne as he runs with a football on the right.

The reverse also has separate images of both players, along with basic stats and a small paragraph. It’s the cheapest on the list by a decent margin, but high PSA grades are still popular at auction.

Kurt Warner Rookie Cards: Buyers & Investment Outlook

Many players are bred for success, but Warner was forced to take a different, longer route on his way to the top.

The majority of people know that he was working the graveyard shift at a supermarket so he could stay in shape back in ‘98, while it’s incredible to think that he only made his debut at the age of 28 because starting quarterback Trent Green was injured in a preseason game. In a parallel universe, Warner never got to show what he had to offer.

Most players’ careers are ending by the time Warner’s began, so he’s clearly a unique case. Of course, it was all worth it in the end, as evidenced by his World Series triumph, and his long list of accolades.

He retired in 2010, despite having a year left on his contract at the time. Warner was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017, although he missed out for two years previously. Given they base the decision partly on longevity, it’s somewhat understandable, but his impact on the sport was too much to be denied.

Of Warner’s RCs, we’d look to the Speed Red version of the 1999 Playoff Contenders if you’re on the lookout for the best investment option. Many are reasonably affordable, but the addition of an autograph helps the set to rank above the others we’ve mentioned.
