Top 3 Manny Machado Rookie Cards, Value, & Checklist

Manny Machado (07/06/92) is a third baseman and shortstop who currently plays for the San Diego Padres. He spent six years with the Baltimore Orioles where he earned a trio of All-Star accolades, before moving onto the Padres after a brief stint in LA with the Dodgers.

While favorable comparisons to everyone from Alex Rodriguez to Cal Ripken indicate his overall quality, Machado’s rookie cards haven’t jumped in price significantly to match the other two.

Here’s everything you need to know about Manny Machado RC: three great versions to choose from and an investment report as he enters a critical career stage.

Best Cards

Machado was a hyped prospect when he made his Orioles debut in 2012, and he already had a range of signed cards from his time in the minor leagues. Each of the options we’ve listed has lots of exciting parallels which increase in rarity, while we’ve looked at auction data to bring you the following list of options.

2013 Bowman Chrome Autograph Chrome RC #ACRMM

His 2013 Bowman Chrome is the only actual rookie card to make our list. A large RC logo in the top left corner and an action shot featuring a gloved Machado and a baseball in view.

Most interestingly, a prominent on-card signature is located at the bottom, taking up a solid chunk of real estate. There are many refractor versions to collect, while it’s the most affordable by a fair margin.

Parallels: Refractors, X-Fractor (/250), Green Refractors (/250), Blue Refractors (/250), Purple Refractors (/199), Gold Refractors (/50), Pink Refractors (/35), Black Refractors (/15), Canary Yellow Refractors (/10), Red Refractors (/5), Printing Plates, Super-Fractors (/1).

2011 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects RC #BPAMM

Heading back in time by almost a decade, this 2011 card is a prospect card rather than a traditional RC.

There’s typically a clear distinction between the two when it comes to rarity and pricing, but Machado was already a known quantity in the minor leagues.

There’s a solid on-card autograph located at the bottom, with Machado wearing his Orioles jersey.

When you factor in the primary border and design and a glum expression on Machado’s face, it’s the worst-looking card of the trio we’ve listed here. Regardless, it’s still sought after considering the brand recognition and the various refractor options.

Parallels: Refractors, Blue Refractors (/199), Gold Refractors (/50), Orange Refractors (/25), Red Refractors (/10), Printing Plates, Super-Fractors (/1), Canary Diamond (/1).

2010 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospect Autographs RC #BDPP80

Another interesting prospect card, his 2010 Bowman Chrome, is probably the pick of the bunch in terms of price and rarity.

It’s the first to feature the player in an MLB uniform, while the ‘1st Bowman Chrome’ logo is a reminder of the fact.

As you can probably tell from the range of options from Machado’s early years, it’s not like he doesn’t have lots of signed prospect cards to choose from.

Regardless, this is one of the best that money can buy, while there’s a large list of parallels.

Parallels: Refractors, Blue Refractors (/199), Gold Refractors (/50), Orange Refractors (/25), Red Refractors (/5), Printing Plates, Super-Fractors (/1), Printing Plates (Four colors).

Christian Yelich Rookie Card – Top 3 Cards and Buyers Guide

Machado signed a 10-year, $300 million contract with the Padres in February 2019, which was briefly the largest free-agent contract in American sports history.

Has the increased price had any impact on the prices of his rookie options?

There’s no shortage of signed rookie/prospect options featuring Machado, which means that they aren’t as expensive as they could be, while the contract signing hasn’t caused prices to explode as you might expect.

You’ll be able to find cheap gem mint copies of the majority of Machado rookie cards we’ve listed, and there’s still room for growth given the length of his contract.

That being said, we are still somewhat skeptical of what Machado is going to bring to the table in San Diego… we feel he takes days and sometimes entire weeks off… if he had the work ethic and hustle of a Pete Rose we would be buying for days… but he doesn’t so we’re not buying.

Manny Machado Rookie Card Value

Even the highest-rated Machado rookie cards at PSA 10 or BGS 9.5 fail to climb above $500.

On average, Manny Machado’s rookie cards will fall somewhere between $100 to $500.
