Top 5 Ronald Acuna Rookie Cards & Values

Ronald Acuna Rookie Card

Ronald Acuna Jr. (12/18/97) is a talented outfielder who currently plays for the Atlanta Braves. He won the Rookie of the Year award in 2018 and went on to be named in the All-Star team the season after.

Ronald Acuna Rookie Year Stats: 111 Games – .292 Avg. – 26 Homers – 64 RBI – .917 OPS

When he was called up to the majors, Acuna Jr. was the youngest player in Major League Baseball, and he proved to be ready for the big time with a number of displays that belied his youth and in the same sent his rookie card values soaring.

He’s already has a world series ring, which is all the more surprising considering he was unfancied when he first moved from Venezuela.

Invest in another young stud: Best Juan Soto Rookie Cards

We’ve put together a list with three of the very best Ronald Acuna Jr. rookie cards that are available on the market right now, along with investment advice for the next few years.

Best Rookie Cards

As he made his MLB debut in April 2018, Acuna Jr. wasn’t included in many of the early 2018 sets.

He still has a large variety of rookie cards from his first year, while there are a number of interesting prospect options if you don’t mind the lack of an RC logo.

Here are three of the best cards you’ll find on the market right now.

2017 Bowman Chrome Prospects RC #BCP127

Ronald Acuna Bowman Rookie Card

Where better to begin than with one of Acuna Jr’s most popular prospect cards? Part of the Bowman Chrome Prospects set released in 2017, it features an action shot of the player mid-sprint, with a 1st Bowman logo located in the top right corner.

The combination of the crisp image matched with the dark background helps to make the player stand out, while MLB branding adds additional value. While we’re on the subject of pricing, there’s also a signed variant, (#CPA-RA) which can fetch an impressive amount at auction even if it’s upgraded.

As with the majority of BCP cards, there’s also an extensive list of Refractor parallels that are serial numbered. They’re always worth checking out if you’re hoping for the best ROI.

Parallels: Refractor (/499), Purple (/250), Bowman 70th (Blue), Blue (/150), Blue Shimmer, Gold (/50), Gold Shimmer (/50), Green, Orange (/25), Orange Shimmer (/25), Red (/5), Red Shimmer (/5), SuperFractor (1/1), Printing Plates 1/1

2018 Topps Bat Down Rookie Card #698

ronald acuna topps bat down rookie card

An extremely rare super short print (SSP) variation found in the 2018 Topps Series 2 set, the “Bat Down” shares the same base number as a Ryan Sherriff card from the same set.

As the name suggests, the bat is pointed towards the floor in the image, as Acuna Jr. admires his work after successfully smashing a ball into orbit. (The base Acuna Jr. card features a similar action shot, although the bat is pointed towards the sky.)

Hot Investment: Zion Williamson Rookie Cards

Given its status as a rare short print, it’s easy to see how it already commands a four-figure fee at auction. It’s also worth noting that the card was released as part of the 2018 Topps Chrome Sapphire set, with a couple of rare parallels that we’ll list below. The Topps Chrome Sapphire card also shares the same base number as the Series 2 (#698), although it was much harder to pack.

Parallels: Red Sapphire (/10), SuperFractor (1/1)

2018 Topps Heritage Rookie Card #580

ronald acuna jr rookie baseball card

Acuna Jr’s 2018 Topps Heritage card was released as part of the 2018 High Number update set, which is one of the reasons why it’s numbered to #580. The base card aims for a vintage feel, with a late ‘60s inspired design and a classic font for the team name.

The set tends to hold value well, even if the base cards are reasonably plentiful. If you’re on the lookout for something a little rarer instead, he also has Action, Color Swap, and Error variations that join the various parallels we’ll list below.

The 2018 Topps Heritage is another decent investment option, especially if you’d prefer to get a variation that stands out from the rest.

Base Parallels: Mini (/100), Black Border (/50), 100th Anniversary (/25), Magenta Back (/10), Reverse Stock (/5)

It’s no exaggeration to say that Acuna Jr. is one of the brightest stars in major league baseball right now. It’s scary to think that his prime years are probably way ahead of him, and he’s yet to hit his physical peak by any means.

Of course, a number of former Rookie of the Year winners have fallen by the wayside in the past, and you’ll have to be careful if you plan to invest heavily in his various RC options.

On the other hand, one crazy stat you should be aware of is that 2020 will be the first time he has ever started a second consecutive season at the same level. Acuna Jr. is used to playing with the big boys, and even the best in the world seems unable to handle him for now.

Popular: Best Derek Carr Rookie Cards

As Acuna Jr. continues to prove that he’s the real deal, the average prices of his rookie cards have increased accordingly. It’s an incredible rise in a short period of time, especially when you consider that he wasn’t the most highly regarded player when he moved from Venezuela as a young prospect.

He seems set to have a strong 2020, while a 60 game season should be enough for the player to keep up his impressive numbers. Another All-Star appearance will only cause his RC values to rise even higher, so now could be a good time to get in on the action before investors and collectors get a stranglehold over the market… if you don’t already have some Acuna Rookie Cards in your portfolio add some sooner rather than later.
